On
September 11, 2001, you have seen and heard repeatedly about “the gory
details” of the terrorist attacks in New York City. I have seen them so much now that I am sick of hearing about it.
However, at the time,
everyone (including me) was completely in shock that someone could
and would attack us in our great country. Right under our noses.
It
Rocked Our World
I’m
Shawn Fenwick, and I own Professional Resources Network (PRN), a
consulting and marketing business that also helped another company,
Medical Corps to market and distribute its products.
Being former military and a former engineer on several "Star Wars"
secret projects, I was familiar with "what if?" scenarios we used
in our research simulations. But this was the real thing.
I was
totally shocked. I was ready to “go get ‘em” and I think most
Americans felt the same. At the same time, I dreaded the thought of
another attack. “If they can do one, they can do more.” My friends and business associates
agreed.
Lee Bellinger, editor of The American Sentinel, wrote; “The bombing
raids against New York and Washington are but a bloody preamble of
what is to come.”
Shortly after the explosions rocked New York and our buildings fell,
it literally exploded something else; the sales of Potassium Iodate
(KIO3) and Potassium Iodide(KI).
Both KIO3 and KI, produced by
Medical Corps, will protect a person, if taken early enough, against
a specific but abundant type of radiation (called Radioactive Iodine or I-131) released in a nuclear
accident or disaster.
We
Almost Went Crazy Trying to Meet the Demand As Thousands of People
Were Urgently Ordering Our Products
It
suddenly was like a bomb had gone off within our companies. The
orders were coming in so fast that we worked day and night filling
the orders. Medical Corps manufactures KIO3 and other medical
products, and it geared up into full day and night production.
My
company helped Medical Corps set up and automate Internet sales for
KIO3. Together, we were responsible for the sales and distribution
of $331,428 worth of KIO3 and KI in just one month!
It was totally crazy! That was just
the month of October, 2001. It didn’t stop there, we soon were
supplying KIO3 to some European countries and orders were still
pouring in from all over the United States.
Why? Why were people frantically stocking up on Anti-Radiation pills? The numbers of people ordering the products amazed me. There were orders from every state in the United States.
The largest group of people ordering were on the East Coast – New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North and South Carolina and Florida.
I believe the reason was (and still is) because the people of the United States really understand the possibility of a terrorist attack on our own soil is NO LONGER a possibility, but a fact.
What most knew then (and know now unless you live under a rock) that another attack is real possibility. And most “insiders” bet that the attack will be nuclear in nature.
The Chilling Inside Story
While our companies were jumping to meet the demand for KIO3 and KI, my duties mainly involved all the operations with the retail sales and shipping large quantities (usually multiple cases) of the product.
My days (and those of my family) were filled with order boxes, answering emails and trying to figure out what to do with some automation issues and also make sure that every order was sent out in a timely manner.
I was personally involved, along with my partner company owner; with making sure our operation got the products into your hands. As I was looking at the orders come in and go out, I began to notice a very strange
thing and so did my partner…
The larger wholesale orders we were filling were to “insider” government agencies and other countries that had a better look at the potential scenarios – from the outside looking in.
Doesn’t that sound strange to you? Do you get the feeling that some folks out there may know what is going down – more than the average person on the street?
The Whole Thing About Nuke Pills Began To Alarm Me
This list of companies and agencies began to alarm me. I mean, I was involved with making sure my company met its obligation to market and distribute this stuff, but a nuclear scenario?
What I started thinking about was all the nuclear scenarios that we previewed in my experience as a "Star Wars" engineer. This really started to bug me.
Now, don’t get me wrong, here. I don’t live on the East Coast and there certainly was a different perspective about the possibility of a nuclear disaster or nuclear terrorism, but I did not believe (with any
strong conviction, at least) that there would be a nuclear standoff and exchange of nuclear weapons. I just couldn’t see what the big panic was, at first...
But then I looked at the growing list:
- American Intelligence command personnel in other countries
- TACDA
- CERT
- Embassy staff in other countries (S. Korea for one)
- Special Forces command personnel and Special Forces folks themselves
- County Law Enforcement Agencies in several states
- City of Honolulu (US submarine base near there)
- United Arab Emirates (!!)
- Pepsi (in several areas)
- USA Pharmacy
- National Institute of Health
- Mission Pharma
(There were many other agencies and companies, some specifically asked not to be mentioned.)
And even though we did not ship a bunch of individual orders to other countries, (except to Canada – we shipped a bunch of KIO3 to Canadians) we shipped to England, Australia, Japan, Scotland, Ireland, Brazil,
and (check this out!) Mongolia.
Are You Following Me Here?
Now I know what you are thinking. What does this prove? What does this all mean? Well, I asked the same questions. To folks that would call and to people in emails. Slowly, (I was skeptical just like you),
I began to have a different picture of what this all meant.
My world was getting much larger, much scarier than I ever knew. I began to worry about the future of my family (I have 5 boys, all at home).
How The Requests From Many Government Agencies Made Me Seriously Consider The Situation
I started to ask many of the government officials (who would talk to me) and other “insider” folks what they thought the real threat and danger would be from a terrorist attack.
Many of the folks just wanted to get their order taken care of, which I did, but a few good folks (I still keep in contact with) talked to me. There were many things I learned, not only from them, but from
government publications and other sources too.
I then learned the details of a chilling story that really made it clear to me.
The Perfect Terrorist Target Has Been Sitting Under Our Noses All Along, And Was Already Tested By Accident

The First Lesson Learned: Something Good Happened To People In Poland
Immediately after the Chernobyl accident, a radioactive cloud spread over many parts of Europe. As many as 30,000 people in Ukraine, Belarus and Russia who were exposed to radiation from that accident have since
developed thyroid cancer, and experts say that the count will grow to ten times the amount.
These people were never given KI or KIO3. Most cases of radiation-induced thyroid cancer take between eight and 20 years to develop, except in children. In younger children under the age of four, it was found
that cancer can develop in as quick as four years from the date of ingestion of radioactive iodine.
Because of this, a 2002 United Nations report suggests that cases of thyroid cancer related to the Chernobyl disaster could more than triple in the next 10 years.
KIO3 and KI was given to the people and children in Poland, but not to people and children in Ukraine. The thyroid cancer rate among Ukrainian children has soared
while there has been no discernible increase among the people or children in Poland.
The Second Lesson Learned: Nuclear Power Plants Are Perfect Terrorist Targets
All the nuclear electrical power plant reactors in the United States are of two types: Boiling Water Reactors (BWR) and Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR). Both of these types of reactors have heavily fortified
“Containment” structures consisting of a steel-reinforced concrete building or dome that will contain any radioactive leaks or pressurized steam leaks from the nuclear power generation within.
These containment buildings are very strong and protect the reactor core from any typical threat from the outside as well as protecting the population from any leaks from the inside.
However, ALL structures were NOT designed to withstand a focused terrorist attack, or a direct strike with a fully-fueled heavy passenger jetliner.
A Washington DC Representative Blows The Whistle On The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Releases Damaging Findings To The Public
On March 25, 2002, Representative Ed Markey (D-MA) released a report on security gaps at nuclear reactor sites.
His analysis of the NRC reveals “troubling black holes in homeland security” after analyzing more than 100 pages of Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) correspondence sent to the Congressman in response to
several letters.
His findings are summarized below:
- The NRC does not know how many foreign nationals are employed at nuclear reactors, and does not require adequate background checks of nuclear reactor employees that would determine whether an
employee was a member of a terrorist organization.
- The NRC does not know what its licensees spend on security or how many security guards are employed at each reactor.
- Twenty-one U.S. nuclear reactors are located within 5 miles of an airport, but 96% of all U.S. reactors were designed without regard for the potential for impact from even a small aircraft.
- Aircraft impact to the containment structure of a nuclear reactor is not the only way an aircraft could cause a full-scale core meltdown.
- The NRC has rejected placing anti-aircraft capabilities at nuclear facilities, even though other countries have chosen to do so and even though meny reactors are located very close to airports.
- Spent nuclear fuel in significant quantities exists at reactors all across the U.S. and is stored in buildings that are not hardened structures, some of which reportedly have sheet metal roofs.
- Security of spent nuclear fuel at decommissioned reactors is lower than that at operating reactors in part because licensees obtained exemptions to the security regulations. The NRC has assumed that
spent fuel fires would only occur as a result of an accident and failed to consider fires that could occur as a result of a terrorist attack.
- The NRC has not scientifically determined how long spent fuel casks can withstand a continued fire, and has not provided information on worst-case consequences of a breach of a spent fuel cask.
It took the NRC almost 6 months after 9/11 to require enhanced security at nuclear reactors.
- The NRC has historically failed to adjust the security regulations to meet the evolving threat, and has yet to begin a permanent revision of security regulations following the events of September
11.
- Security exercises at nuclear reactor sites are inadequate, and sites continue to fail the exercises about 50% of the time.

The Third Lesson Learned: No Matter How Important This Issue Is, No Matter How Much Evidence You Present, Some
People Aren't Going to Listen and Don't Give A Damn About Protecting Themselves or Their Family - Even If It is Free or Dirt-Cheap
There will be those of you out there that think that I am deranged and/or this whole idea is just plain crazy. Now, don't take this wrong, or misunderstand me... I really don't care what you think about me
personally.
I have a feeling that if you are with me this far, you do care about this and probably have the normal, skeptical "let's see what this is" attitude. You should have this kind of attitude on anything you read on
the internet because of all the B.S. that is out there.
But as to this whole matter of nuclear terrorism and a nuclear disaster, let me give you OTHER references that might put the issue of possibilities to rest:
Click on this link to read a short article called "Nuclear Power
and Terrorism" by an New York newspaper called "The Nation"
Click on this link to read an article by "The New York Times"
called "Nuclear Nightmares"
I could give you hundreds of articles. I used to scour the internet and news agencies to find them for you. But I am tired of doing it, and I am not going to do it any more. You can easily find the
information yourself and I will make all my library available to you if you are really interested.
Ok, So, What Are The Real Issues Here?
In trying to evaluate all of the information that came to me from insiders and from the information hitting the news, it all seems so overwhelming. Let me make it easy for you to understand:
- FACT: Terrorists are already on our soil and some still have a mission.
- FACT: There have been over 100 terrorist alert condition events indicate that terrorists are at work and our government is trying to stop them.
- FACT: Iran is going to succeed in building nuclear weapons, and when that happens, look out.
- FACT: North Korea has Nukes and no matter what kind of diplomacy was used, it didn't work. (They may be the spark that ignites the Third World War, this time with Nukes.)
- FACT: When we attacked the Al Qaeda in caves in Afghanistan, we found pictures and diagrams of nuclear power plants. (I find this more than "interesting", don't you?)
- FACT: CNN Reported: -- "Illustrations, photos and interrogations of al Qaeda members in Afghanistan prompted a federal agency to warn that terrorists planned to slam an airliner into a U.S. nuclear
power plant."
- FACT: Poland got anti-radiation pills and the citizens took them during the Chernobyl disaster.
- FACT: Poland does not have an epidemic of thyroid disease or cancer.
- FACT: The Ukraine did not get anti-radiation pills during the Chernobyl disaster. (Actually, the government tried to distribute the pills a week after the accident, but it was too late.)
- FACT: The Ukraine has an ongoing epidemic of thyroid disease and cancers.
FACT: You can prepare. Now.
When I face information overload I always try to look for the things I can control, things I can do something about, don’t you?
"So what is something I can do in this mass of information overload?"
The Inescapable Conclusion; I Came Away With Two Issues That I Could Focus On, And You Should Do At Least These Two Things.
You CAN do something. You can easily take the steps necessary to protect yourself and your family. They are very simple things, and I will make it as painless as possible.
The Two Things You Can Do:
- Purchase a supply of KIO3 or KI and have it available, no matter where you are.
- Download free booklets that help you prepare for a nuclear emergency and read them, at least one time.
There it is. "You want me to buy something" Yes.
Listen, Let me make it easy on you - you don't have to buy a supply of KIO3 from me - Believe me, I have my supply for my family and I can get plenty more if I need it.
I have given KIO3 out as gifts to all my friends and relatives (even to my mother-in-law and ex-wife!). There are bunches of people on the internet that sell the stuff. That is easy to check out.
And I am not trying to sell you a fallout shelter or any expensive equipment or a 1 year supply of food, or anything else I do not have myself. (not that there is anything wrong with a shelter or food supply, if
you can afford it).
Let me ask you something else:
Do you have aspirin or Tylenol (or generic equivalent) in your medicine cabinet or in your first aid kit? Do you have a first aid kit at all?
If you do have either of them or both, how come?
"Because you may have a reason to use it."
Why not have a bottle of KIO3 in your cabinet or first aid kit? It only makes sense, and believe me - if something unthinkable happens like a nuclear disaster, it is cheap cheap insurance - and now you can do
something about it.
What you should do next is to see how much KIO3 you need for a nuclear emergency or disaster and how much it costs.
You will be pleasantly surprised...
